ASSAGAO: The Wednesday night candlelight protest outside Rumba nightclub in Assagao has shed light on the growing concerns of the local residents regarding the proliferation of illegal nightclubs in the area.
With over three hundred people coming together to voice their grievances, it is evident that the issue has struck a chord with the community.
The protesters raised concerns about the adverse impact of these illegal nightclubs on the peace and tranquillity of the village.
They have alleged that many of these establishments operate without the necessary construction licenses, leading to disturbances caused by loud music late into the night.
The proximity of Rumba nightclub to a temple, a chapel, and residential houses further exacerbates the situation, as it directly affects the daily lives of the local residents.
People from all walks of life and different communities came together to address this issue. Local resident Ida Fonseca emphasized the need for the panchayat to take concrete steps to address these illegalities and ensure that the concerns of the residents are not overlooked.
Avertino Miranda of Green Brigade highlighted the broader scope of the issue, pointing out that the problem extends beyond Rumba nightclub and encompasses various other establishments operating without the required licenses.
This underscores the need for a comprehensive approach to tackle all illegal activities in the village, rather than focusing solely on individual establishments.
The sentiment of the protesters resonates with the broader goal of upholding the law and ensuring that all illegal activities are brought to light and addressed.
The call for transparency and accountability is evident in the community’s demand for clarity on the actions being taken by the panchayat to curb these illegalities. The emphasis on the need for open communication and engagement with the residents reflects a desire for collaborative efforts in addressing the issue.
Suzette Dias, another local resident, expressed the importance of allowing the community to express their concerns and seek clarifications from the panchayat. This underscores the significance of inclusive participation and dialogue in addressing community issues effectively.
