CURCHOREM: Locals from Assolda-Xeldem question why authorities play blind against illegalities such as hill cutting etc., happening openly in daylight? The new prez of the Shree Chadreshwar Bhoothnath temple committee inspects the hill cutting site.
With the Panchayat election month ahead, the illegal cutting of hills and developing residential plots illegally in Xeldem-Assolda villages has become the talk of the town.
The locals from Xeldem-Assolda are questioning why the government authorities who can take strict action against such illegalities are tight-lipped and don’t want to act against illegalities on their own.
People openly blame government authorities such as Panchayat, Mamlatdar, and Deputy collectors for turning a blind eye towards rampantly such illicit activities.
Recently, the new president of the Shree Chandreshwar Bhoothnath temple committee inspected the site where the hill cutting and Illegal land slopping are being done.
It may be recalled that this issue was raised by Ex-Sarpanch Pramod Desai.
One of the residents from Quepem Vishal Desai said that ‘it is not the first time that illegal hill cutting is happening, but it has also happened before. Hill cutting is also ongoing opposite the electricity substation; what action mamlatdar’s office has taken? Is Mamlatdar ignorant about the issue? If Deputy Collector, Mamlatdar says they are unaware of it, then it is silly on their part, Desai said.
He further questioned why the government authorities with the power to act against illegalities are non-reactive to such illegalities?
Desai added that this hill cutting started 6 months before, according to my information. Why do not authorities identify this issue and act? The non-reactive attitude of the government authorities indirectly helps such illicit activities to flourish, Desai added.
Local panch member of Nirmal Nagar Johanna Fernandes said the law should take care of these things, and now it’s brought into the notice of the Deputy Collector of Quepem and Mamlatdar office, so now they will have to act as per the rules. If they want to send show-cause notifications, they have to proceed now, and what the rules, yet they follow the rules, and if somebody wants to send showcase notices, etc., they should go ahead with it.
The new president of the Shree Chandreshware Bhutnooth temple committee said we have conducted the site inspection.
