PANAJI: The government has reopened one of the connections around the Porvorim elevated corridor as part of efforts to ease congestion and improve access between Porvorim and Panaji.
According to a travel advisory issued by SP Traffic, motorists travelling from Merces towards Porvorim and Calangute will be permitted to use the Atal Setu from the Merces side with effect from Wednesday.
Two-wheelers, however, will not be permitted to use the reopened route.
The motorists using the Atal Setu will have to exit near Hotel Neo Majestic in Porvorim, before the entry point of the Porvorim Elevated Corridor.
The decision follows a review of traffic movement around the elevated corridor on Monday. The entry and exit points had earlier been barricaded following a crash near Neo Majestic that claimed two lives.
The closure had raised concerns over access for local commuters and increased pressure on the service roads in the area.
With the connection now reopened, motorists will have an additional route option while wider traffic management measures are being worked out.
Traffic authorities have advised motorists to follow the designated route and exercise caution while approaching the exits.
Clear signage and lane markings at both exits, however, are yet to be implemented, which could pose challenges for motorists navigating the revised arrangement.
