New Delhi: Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has launched a fresh attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, listing seven conditions that he believes could help the Congress improve its electoral performance and increase its representation in Parliament.
Rijiju’s remarks came amid an escalating political confrontation over Gandhi’s repeated challenges to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for an open debate. Taking a sarcastic dig at the Leader of the Opposition, the minister shared a seven point checklist on social media.
Among his suggestions, Rijiju asked Gandhi to spend more time in India and avoid frequent secret foreign vacations. He also advised him to respect senior leaders and learn from their experience, describing it as an important Indian tradition.
The minister further urged Gandhi to stop associating with people he considers anti India and called on him to change his political approach towards the BJP, the RSS and Prime Minister Modi.
Rijiju suggested that Gandhi should put an end to what he described as deep hatred towards the BJP, RSS and Modi. He also advised the Congress leader to treat the BJP as a political opponent rather than an enemy.
Another major point on Rijiju’s checklist concerned parliamentary conduct. He asked Gandhi to take Parliament more seriously and allow MPs to participate in debates and discussions instead of disrupting proceedings.
Earlier, Rijiju shared an old video from Parliament showing Opposition members walking out while he was addressing the House. He questioned their commitment to democratic discussions and criticised repeated disruptions that had affected parliamentary proceedings.
The political exchange intensified after Gandhi challenged Prime Minister Modi to an open debate, claiming he could establish within five minutes that the Prime Minister was a traitor. The allegation triggered a strong response from Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
Gandhi had also questioned why no defamation case had been filed against him over his allegations concerning the Prime Minister’s position and foreign assistance, further intensifying the confrontation between the ruling BJP and the Congress.
