PONDA: The locals at Curti Khandepar gram sabha on Sunday expressed concern over some residential buildings releasing waste and garbage at open and demanded that no occupancy be granted to the new residential complex unless the conditions required are fulfilled.
Sarpanch said that all garbage black spots will soon be cleared to keep Panchayat clean.
Curti Khandepar Panchayat Gramsabha unanimously opposed the proposed Bandhara on the Khandepar Mhadei river.
Locals, including Sandeep Parkar, feared that it may lead to environmental problems and also flooding of houses at Murdi Khandepar. This sensitive zone to high tide, and if saline and fresh water are separated, it will hit shellfish and other environmental problems.
The Panchayat body, including Sarpanch Naved Tehsildar, local Panchmember Abhijeet Gaonkar and another panch, supported resolutions passed by Gramsabha Members. More than 200 villagers were present for the meeting.
Sarpanch Naved Tehsildar said Panchayat will stand by the decision of gram sabha and that already in the past, the NOC to WRD Bandhara has been scrapped by Panchayat Body.
The villagers also passed several development works and various development committees were formed. The locals also questioned the pollution in the river, which flowed with muddy water and drank muddy water supplies from the tap.
The locals said they had opposed Sewerage Treatment Plant at Curti, but despite this, work on the sewerage network is progressing haphazardly, and roads are blocked, causing hardship to locals.
Locals said they will oppose STP in the Curti area tooth and nail and that Panchayat and Sewerage Department should not keep them in the dark about the proposed sewerage plant.
The locals also expressed concern over the 0.5 per cent street light tax charged by the Power department. Locals said We use power for twenty-four hours, and street light operates for only 12 hours .locals questioned why total units consumed are considered for street light charges. The locals at the old housing board Curti complained that their road had not been repaired for 30 years.
They also demanded police verification of tenants. Locals also demanded household dustbins and lower the garbage tax, stating it is hiked exorbitantly.
Sarpanch Naved Tehsildar said Curti Panchayat crematorium will be renovated, and all facilities will be provided for the benefit of all communities.
He also said that bio-toilets would be provided to villagers.
“Those dumping garbage in the open should be punished,” said Rocky Dias.
He said he caught red-handed the vehicles involved in the dumping of garbage in the open but so far, no action against them.
Locals demanded proper drainage and gutter cleaning system at various spots, including Khandepar OPA Junction.
