New Delhi: Tamim Iqbal, president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, has expressed confidence that India will travel to Bangladesh in September 2026 for the scheduled white ball series, saying discussions with the Board of Control for Cricket in India have been encouraging.
Speaking in Dhaka, Tamim said the Bangladesh Cricket Board is making every effort to ensure the tour goes ahead. He revealed that regular communication is taking place between officials of both cricket boards, with ongoing discussions and exchanges aimed at finalising the series.
The proposed tour includes three One Day Internationals and three Twenty20 Internationals, a contest that has generated significant anticipation among cricket fans in both countries. According to Tamim, matches involving India always create a special level of excitement for supporters, players and the cricketing community.
India were initially scheduled to visit Bangladesh in August 2025, but both boards mutually agreed to postpone the white ball series to September 2026. The decision was taken after considering the international commitments and scheduling requirements of both teams, allowing for a more suitable window in the cricket calendar.
Addressing concerns surrounding the tour, Tamim emphasised that Bangladesh remains a safe destination for international cricket. He said the board is doing everything within its responsibility to facilitate the series while respecting the decision making process of the Indian board.
The former Bangladesh captain added that although some aspects of the tour are beyond the BCB’s control, the discussions held so far have been positive. He expressed optimism that a final decision on the series would be made soon, providing clarity for players, officials and fans eagerly awaiting confirmation of India’s visit.
If the tour proceeds as planned, it will mark another high profile bilateral series between the neighbouring nations and add an important chapter to their competitive white ball rivalry.
