New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly postponed its planned review meeting following India’s disappointing tours of England and Ireland, where the team managed just two victories in 10 matches across T20Is and ODIs.
According to reports, the meeting was deferred after BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia fell ill. The review is now expected to take place in the coming days, with head coach Gautam Gambhir likely to join the discussions virtually.
India’s difficult overseas campaign began with a 2-0 whitewash against Ireland in the two match T20I series under new captain Shreyas Iyer. The team then struggled in England, losing the five match T20I series 3-1 after one match was washed out due to rain. The disappointment continued in the ODI format, where Shubman Gill’s side suffered a 2-1 series defeat.
The team’s batting performance has drawn criticism, with several former cricketers pointing to India’s inability to adjust to the conditions in Ireland and England. Many suggested that extended exposure to batting friendly pitches during the home T20 World Cup and IPL 2026 may have affected the players’ adaptability in more challenging overseas conditions.
Gautam Gambhir had also stressed the importance of reading match conditions better, noting that factors such as wind direction and ground dimensions can significantly influence T20 cricket and require players to make quicker tactical adjustments.
Apart from the team’s on field struggles, the BCCI is also expected to examine India’s growing injury concerns. Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah recently became the latest key player to be ruled out after initially being selected for the Sri Lanka Test series. He was replaced by uncapped Jammu and Kashmir pacer Auqib Nabi.
Several other players, including Sai Sudharsan, Harshit Rana, Washington Sundar and Nitish Reddy, are also recovering from injuries. Reports suggest that both captain Shubman Gill and head coach Gautam Gambhir have expressed concern over the recurring fitness issues affecting the team’s first choice players. The rescheduled review meeting is expected to address both India’s recent performances and the management of player fitness ahead of upcoming international assignments.
