PANAJI: In a thrilling display of football prowess, the United Club of Verna has secured a quarterfinals berth in the 1st Vauradencho IXTT Trophy, following a convincing 4-1 victory over Maina SC. The match, held at the DSYA ground in Curtorim on Sunday, was a testament to the team’s cohesive strategy and individual brilliance, particularly highlighted by Beniston Barretto’s hat-trick.
The 1st Vauradencho IXTT Trophy, organized by Batora United Club in association with Margao Sports Club, has been attracting significant attention, and this match was no exception. Prominent guests, including Jose Pais and Carlos Paes, were in attendance to witness the exciting encounter.
The United Club of Verna’s dominance was evident from the early stages of the match. Beniston Barretto opened the scoring in the 5th minute, setting the tone for what would be a stellar performance. He doubled the lead in the 15th minute, further solidifying Verna’s grip on the game.
In the second half, Verna continued to press their advantage. Barretto scored his third goal in the 44th minute, and Josly Moniz added another in the 50th minute, making it 4-0. Although Maina SC managed to pull one back through Joywin Carneiro in the 52nd minute, it was too little, too late.
An early missed opportunity by Nickson Castanaha of Maina SC in the 4th minute proved costly, as Verna capitalized on their chances throughout the match. The event was well-organized, reflecting the collaborative efforts of Batora United Club and Margao Sports Club.
