CANACONA: Stating the Mission of hygienic water supply to the people of Canacona is the need of the hour, congress leader Janardhan Bhandari has now demanded immediate implementation of the Master Plan with 15 demands to improvise the public water supply system in the taluka.
Bhandari in his inimitable style has submitted a memorandum to PWD Principal Chief Engineer Uttam Parsekar and various other authorities placing on record Master-Plan prepared by the citizens after conducting an intensive study of the water supply system crisis in Canacona taluka and has accordingly insisted on immediate implementation of 15 demands for supplying clear, hygienic water to the people of Canacona. ‘yes, We are constantly fighting for access to clean, potable water supply to the people of Canacona through Vision & Mission…Progressive Canacona’.
15 demands related to Chapoli Dam, Gavnem Dam, filters at water Treatment Plants, Water Storage Tanks, Water Tank maintenance, provision for backup water pumps, safety & security, recruitment of necessary manpower, Water Tanker vehicles, availability of departmental vehicles in emergencies etc. are suggested to improve quality and quantity of water supply through public tap.
‘The recent incident where after Bacteriological examination of water, DHS through Canacona Health Officer conducted tests that declared that water supplied from 5 sites of PWD in Agonda and Khola can not be recommended for human consumption, has exposed the present condition of the water crisis in Canacona.
‘Our Hon’ble Prime Minister congratulated Goa Government in August 2022, as the first State to be ‘Har Ghar Jal-certified’ (meaning every household in the state had a piped water connection), but the reality is different and Canconkars are facing a shortage of potable water supply and also whatever water is supplied, it is neither clean nor hygienic.’
Further stating Canconkars are still getting contaminated, toxic water through the tap which is a blatant violation of their fundamental rights, water crises in Canacona has been raised for so many years, submitting representations to various government authorities requesting to resolve serious issue of water, but due to supply of contaminated, toxic water patients of various diseases are increasing in Canacona. Canacona taluka has the highest number of patients suffering from chronic kidney disease & now patients suffering from breast cancer, skin diseases & other serious skin-related diseases are detected in Canacona which is really a serious concern.
True to our aim of Vision & Mission…Progressive Canacona, we continuously work for a progressive, problem-free Canacona and have conducted extensive village-wise studies to find out various flaws and requirements for enabling hygienic, potable water to the entire Canacona taluka. After a thorough study, we have prepared and annexed a detailed Master Plan which indicates village-wise requirements like Repair/Painting/Plastering/Fencing and cleaning of the water plants/storage tanks etc., to supply hygienic, potable water to the entire population of Canacona.’
“We have also come to the conclusion that some crucial infrastructure projects which are still at the approval/sanction stage are very vital to streamline tap water supply in Canacona as such these projects need to be given priority to complete.
We have placed 15 demands in the Memorandum to streamline the public water supply system in Canacona. As Chief Minister himself holds the PWD portfolio, we also request the Hon’ble Chief Minister to direct the Principal Chief Engineer, Chief Engineer-Water Supply and other high-ranked officers responsible for public water supply in Canacona to conduct a joint inspection of all the above-mentioned dams, water plants, water tanks to take stock of all existing problems & resolve them at earliest to streamline the water supply system in Canacona.
Nevertheless, we have appraised the PCE-PWD about the water crisis in Canacona requesting to take urgent steps to resolve this serious issue which affects the fundamental rights of Canconkars. But if the Government still persist in ignoring our health concerns, then we will not hesitate to come on the street and even take the law into our own hands to get our Fundamental Rights to protect our health and in such eventuality, the government will be solely held responsible for all the consequences., Bhandari who is also the Founder and Chief of Jana Sena +in a press-note states.
