BICHOLIM: In a disturbing incident that highlights the growing menace of cybercrime, the Bicholim police in Goa have initiated an investigation into a case of online fraud that resulted in a significant financial loss for a local resident. On January 23, 2025, an FIR was registered under the provisions of the IT Act, marking the beginning of a thorough probe.
The complaint, filed by Udit, son of Umesh Teli, a resident of Bicholim, alleges that between November 21 and 25, 2024, an individual named Sharath Kumar DK from Chitradurga, Challakere, Karnataka, deceived him into investing Rs. 2,00,000 in a coconut business through online means. The accused allegedly used electronic gadgets to dishonestly induce the investment, ultimately duping the complainant.
The investigation is being led by Police Inspector Dinesh D Gadekar, under the supervision of Shri Jivba Dalvi, SDPO Bicholim, and the overall oversight of SP North Shri Akshat Kaushal, IPS. As the investigation progresses, the police are working to unravel the details of the fraud and bring the perpetrators to justice.
