BICHOLIM: Bicholim Police have arrested a 46-year-old man for allegedly accepting bets on numerical figures from members of the public at an open public place near the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Sanquelim.
According to the state complaint filed by HC-4580 Umesh Naik of Bicholim Police Station, the incident took place at around 10.30 am on August 10, 2026.
Police identified the accused as Mohammad Yusuf Tahasildar, son of Abdul Azim Aga, a resident of Gokulwadi, Sanquelim, and originally from Upasageri Oni Savadatti in Belagavi, Karnataka.
The accused was allegedly caught red-handed while accepting money as bets and issuing paper slips to the participants in return for the amounts paid.
Police seized ₹2,679 in cash along with other articles allegedly used for gambling from his possession.
Tahasildar was arrested at around 1.33 pm on August 10 and is currently in police custody.
Further investigation is being conducted by HC-4580 Umesh Naik of Bicholim Police Station.
