PANAJI: Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant informed that BJP has postponed all its public meetings until January 15 and will further wait for the Election Commission of India (ECI) instructions.
CM Sawant also urged the public to take the vaccination drive seriously due to the rising COVID-19 cases.
“BJP has further extended the ban on its public meetings till January 15 in the wake of rising cases. We will wait for further order from the Election Commission of India (ECI),” said CM Sawant.
He further stated that the state government has taken all steps and precautions on COVID-19, and the people should take vaccination drives seriously in the wake of the rising COVID cases in the state.
The Chief Minister informed that only four to five percent of the eligible population had not taken the second Covid vaccine dose yet, urging people to complete their innoculation.
“We are promoting 100 percent vaccination. Four to five percent vaccination is left. Those who have not taken the second dose should take it as soon as possible. If we are fully vaccinated, any possible spread of Covid or Omicron virus will be limited,” Sawant said.
Every adult in the coastal state has been vaccinated with at least one dose of the vaccine already, a feat that the state achieved back in September 2021. However, the state is yet to achieve complete coverage of the second dose.
Among other measures, a genome sequencing machine will be set up in Goa in the next 15 days to speed up testing for the Omicron variant, he added. The samples are now being sent to the National Institute of Virology in Pune.
