PANAJI: GPCC president Girish Chodankar said that BJP government which did not leave a single opportunity to make fortunes by doing “Business of Sickness” during this Covid pandemic, has now done a ‘Scam from a Scam’ by doing a Golmaal in the so-called Ivermectin tablets which were supposed to be made available to all the health centres in Goa for free distribution to the people as prophylaxis treatment for Covid.
Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant must explain to the Goans where these tablets worth almost Rs. 22.50 crores have disappeared, he demanded.
He said it is shocking that on our inquiry with almost 15 health centres across Goa, none of them had received the Ivermectin tablets till date.
“We have also inquired with people in various villages who have confirmed to us that the tablets have not reached them. Even some staff members of Women and Child Department and Anganwadi workers appeared clueless about the distribution drive as announced by the health minister Vishawajit Rane,” claimed Girish Chodankar.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane had first declared on 10th May 2021 that the said tablets will be used as prophylaxis treatment and subsequently again on 17th May had announced that staff of WCD & Anganwadi Workers will be roped in to distribute the said tablets. Congress Party had raised alarm on both the occasions said Girish Chodankar.
“There is a strong possibility that fearing public outcry after Congress Party appealed to people not take the tablets endangering their lives, BJP Government has decided not to distribute the tablets. If this is the case, Government must explain who will bear the huge cost of Rs.22.50 crores incurred on the purchase of the said tablets,” questioned Girish Chodankar.
Congress Party had raised strong objections to the use of the said Ivermectin tablets without clinical trials. We had also pointed to the statements issued by World Health Organisation and other experts from the medical & science fraternity who had openly warned against use of these tablets.
“We once again demand that the Chief Minister must clarify whose advise was taken by the Health Department to distribute the said tablets to all the citizens in the State. Government must show guts and dare to reveal names of all those experts who advised government going against the directives of World Health Organisation,” he said.
“We once again appeal to the people not to consume the said Ivermectin tablets without clinical trials and proper medical advise with prescription,” stated Girish Chodankar
