PANAJI: Panaji police today arrested businessman Venkatesh Moni after an arrest warrant was issued by North Goa Collector under provisions of Goa Land Revenue Code.
Moni has been arrested for allegedly failing to clear outstanding arrears of land revenue amounting approx Rs 7 crores.
Through its rulings on March 17, 2022, and November 30, 2022, GRERA directed Moni to compensate the unit holders and pay interest totaling about Rs 9 crore.
Additionally, within the allotted time, the regulatory body ordered the builder to correct any building flaws and give the decree holders legal possession of the apartments.
The complainants pointed out a number of unfinished projects, such as the basement’s water abetment, the lift’s operationalization, the removal of a kiosk, and obtaining the building’s Fire NOC, which is essential for obtaining an occupancy certificate.
The legal dispute is the result of complaints made by decree holders who bought shops and office space in “Prabhu Chambers,” which were built in 2012. However, the complainants filed their first complaint with the GRERA in November 2019 after Moni failed to deliver possession of the units.
