PONDA: A two-day seminar on “Spiritual Upliftment through Music” organised by Maharshi Adhyatma University at Ramnathi saw participation from artists across Goa, Mumbai, Pune and Thane, with speakers calling for early establishment of a proposed university dedicated to spiritual practice through music.
Senior flautist Pt. Keshav Ginde from Pune said the proposed university in Goa, envisioned to guide spiritual practice through music, should be established at the earliest. He said the direction of “spiritual practice through music” given by Sachchidanand Parabrahma Dr. Jayant Athavale is appropriate and can lead to spiritual bliss.
The two-day seminar held on March 22 and 23 focused on the concept that art is not merely for entertainment but a powerful medium for God-realisation. Organisers said the objective was to guide the future generation towards spiritual practice through art and explore practical ways to implement the vision.
During the seminar, the university’s music coordinators Tejal Patrikar and Girijay Prabhudesai explained the guidance on spiritual practice through music, along with research on Indian music and its subtle aspects.
Senior harmonium player Pt. Vishwanath Kanhere said the initiative brought many artists together after years and added that the ultimate stage of art is spirituality. Classical dancer Sonia Parchure stated that combining music with spirituality can influence the entire nation and help guide the next generation.
Classical vocalist Pt. Nishad Bakre said a movement providing a spiritual perspective to art could begin from Goa, while vocalist Pt. Chandrashekhar Vazhe said the university could become a guiding institution in the future. Dance guru Jyoti Shidhaye noted that the seminar inspired participants to take action and described the event during the Gudi Padwa period as symbolic for the larger mission.
The seminar concluded with a devotional flute performance titled “Panchajanya Venu” by Pt. Keshav Ginde.
