CANACONA: Nearly 400 coastal residents from Palolem, Rajbhag-Tarir, and Talpona of coastal Canacona left for Panaji early Friday morning to submit the memorandum to the GCZMA.
Canacona residents are protesting against the newly passed MPA Act-2021, which will not only kill the tourism industry but will also take away the livelihoods of Fishermen and Toddy-tappers and displace and evacuate the traditional coastal residents.
The fish markets of Canacona were virtually deserted on Friday as neither fish vehicles nor fisher-women came to the needs.
Most of the fisherfolks and people running tourism businesses and living within 200 meters from the High Tide Line had left for Panaji packed in buses to the CRZ office to follow up with a solid but peaceful protest to hand over the memorandum against the newly passed MPA Act-2021 by the Central Govt.
Residents feel this Act takes over the Goan inhabited Coastal belt to the private rich people and by this draconian law will force people out.
