CANACONA: Mamlatdar and Sub District Magistrate of Canacona taluka Vimod Dalal held a meeting of Canacona Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandals for suggestions on the celebration of the upcoming Ganesh celebration in the taluka.
The meeting was held in view of the sudden spurt of Covid-19 cases during the celebration of Ganeshotsav last year.
The meeting was attended by most of the presidents of the Sarvajanik.
Ganeshotsav Mandals in the taluka, Health Officer and a representative from the Canacona police station.
Mamlatdar and SDM Dalal informed those present about the last year’s SOP and asked those present for suggestions, if any, which will be forwarded to the higher authority for information and suitability for changing the SOP to be followed during the current year Ganeshotsav celebration, he said.
Dalal informed that as per last year, SOP Ganesh idol was made mandatory to be of a maximum of four feet height so that a maximum of four persons can lift it, no decoration or no programs were allowed, while transportation of the Ganesha idol no more than five persons should be there in the vehicle, no bursting of firecrackers or fireworks display, one and half-day rituals and idols made from POP were banned he informed those present.
Most of those present said that the Covid-19 cases in the taluka have come to single-digit since the last few weeks. Still, it said it’s better to take utmost care while celebrating Ganeshotsav. They believe that the Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav should be held with a similar SOP as last year.
Kiran Gaonkar president of Agonda Sarvajanik Mandal president said
that the Covid-19 situation is not conducive for reverting back to celebrating Ganeshotsav on a grand scale and suggested that one and a half rituals with last year’s SOP will have to be followed to stop the virus from causing more damage.
Divakar Pagi, ex chairperson of Canacona Municipality, said that the preparation is just like last year and whatever the SOP, the Mandals are working in the direction to celebrate Ganeshotsav last year only.
Others present for the meeting were Health Officer Dr jose.
Tavares, Dr Divakar Velip PSI Swadesh Desai, Dr Cajie Silva PA to
deputy speaker Isidore Fernandes and one member of various Mandals in the taluka.
Normally, the Sarvajanik Mandals were coming out with lotteries. That has stopped since last year. Some members suggested and requested that the government help them financially during these covid times.
The authorities have to allot different times for the immersion of the idol as everyone will arrive at the same time at the various immersion sites in the taluka suggested many.
