CANACONA – In a significant development, Canacona police cracked the murder of a woman whose body was found a week ago at Gulem in Canacona.
The identity of the unknown woman, whose body was found in a highly decomposed state behind a government primary school at Gulem on the 19th (last Thursday), is established. The woman was believed to have been strangulated by a dupatta to death. The postmortem had confirmed this, while Canacona police have registered a case of murder against an unknown person/s and have begun an investigation into the matter.
After ascertaining the type of dress found on her, it was believed the unknown woman was non-Goan; she also found out there were no missing reports of any woman in any police stations in the State.
While police were still trying to find a clue, a few days later, a missing complaint was reportedly registered at Margao police station that their mother is gone away, and police, while investigating, reached a dwelling hutments at Malbhat Margao.
During the investigation, it was found that Ajay Malik (45) took his wife Savita Devi(42) on the pretext of making some purchases and took a Kadamba Bus to proceed to Canacona. Both had reportedly alighted from the bus at Gulem, near the road towards Agonda.
The body of Savita, however, was found on that following Tuesday evening. Her husband Ajay was the last person seen with his wife Savita, and this was found during the overall investigation, informed Canacona PI Pravin Gawas.
As the family initially belonged to Bihar, police suspect the husband of the deceased woman Ajay is believed to have fled to Bihar. Accordingly, Canacona police have deputed a team of officials, including a PSI, a Hawaldar, and a Constable, to Bihar to find and trace the accused.
The couple/woman had a 10-year-old daughter and five-year-old son.
