VASCO: Cansaulim Panchayat, in its extraordinary gram sabha, passed a resolution to fetch additional funds and machinery from the government to make Cansaulim village garbage and Open Defecation Free. Gram sabha also resolved to go ahead with phase two of the Solid waste management plan.
An Extraordinary gram sabha was held at Cansaulim panchayat on Sunday to discuss open defecation and garbage menace, and the Gramsabha later resolved to take forward phase two of Sold waste management plans and ODF schemes.
A gram sabha member Simon D’Souza said that an extraordinary Gramsabha was held to discuss issues of solid waste management plan after the Director of Panchayat sent a memorandum to discuss with gram sabha members for funds and to form a committee to handle the garbage and open defecation issue.
“We have passed the resolution to get extra funds and machinery to make the village garbage and open defecation free. We have put a condition to have an awareness program and not allow any more mega projects,” D’Souza said.
Another resident Ella Mascarenhas said that a resolution to implement phase two of the ODF schemes and solid waste management plans was taken. The gram sabha members were assured by the administrator to form a new committee to check on various dark spots in the village area.
She further said that I have urged the panchayat to put sign boards and CCTV cameras to catch the people who litter garbage at the roadside. The residential colonies must collect garbage and segregate it at the source and hand it over to the Panchayat, Mascarenhas added.
