PANAJI: The Crime Branch of Goa Police conducted a successful anti-human trafficking raid in the early hours of Wednesday near Palmirna Resort in Calangute, rescuing a woman allegedly being exploited for prostitution and arresting one accused.
The operation, carried out between 2.06 am and 4 am, was conducted under the direct supervision of Superintendent of Police, Crime Branch, Jivba Dalvi, as part of the department’s continued crackdown on human trafficking and prostitution rackets.
Acting on specific intelligence, the Crime Branch team raided the area and rescued a woman who was allegedly being forced into prostitution.
The accused, Punna Hari Prasad (33), currently residing at Tambodki in Arpora and originally from Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district of Telangana, was apprehended while allegedly arriving on a black Fascino scooter (GA-07-AR-0515) to deliver the victim to prospective customers for prostitution.
Based on a complaint filed by Police Inspector Vikas Deykar, the Crime Branch Police Station registered Crime No. 66/2026 under Sections 143, 143(1) and 143(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, read with Sections 4, 5 and 7 of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956.
The accused has been arrested, and further investigation is underway.
