PANAJI: The Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) Mayor Rohit Monserrate today pitched for a safety audit of all the contractors under the Imagine Panaji Smart City (IPSCDL).
“I have written to the Smart City basically asking the contractors to be careful in the works their are engaged in. I have also spoken to them and told them that a safety audit be conducted of the contractors,” said Mayor
He further said that this is the second accident that has happened in one week which is not acceptable.
“The smart city should come up some guidelines to be followed by the contractors to ensure that incidents like these don’t occur,” he said
Mayor informed that the contractors had asked for road closure but we can see that some people are moving their barricades which is not acceptable.
“It’s high time action will be taken against contractors for not following the guidelines, I will speak to smart city,” he added
In another accident that has once again questioned the Smart City project’s smartness, a sewage suction truck partially sank in one of the roads at Tonca, which was dug to carry out sewerage work.
The accident comes barely four days after a loaded tanker fell in a pit at St Inez injuring four labourers.
None of the two accident sites had any proper safety measures in place with the District Administration yet to take the issue seriously.
