Margao: The irresponsible and insensitive BJP Government has imposed financial emergency in the State by emptying the State coffers and has now pushed the Goans into the Covid trap. The Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant must stop giving false promises and should “Walk the Talk” with regards to the action taken by the Government on various constructive suggestion made to the Government demanded Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat.
Addressing the Goans through Facebook Live, the Leader of Opposition gave point wise rebuttal to the allegations levelled by the Chief Minister against the Opposition. He appealed to the people of Goa not to keep any expectations from the Government with regards to Covid Pandemic and urged the Goans to take care of themselves by taking utmost precautions.
The Chief Minister actually read out the failures of his Government in his 30 minute speech yesterday. His speech was clear cut admission that the BJP Government had not done anything beyond making announcement and giving assurances. The Chief Minister could not speak about a single Action Plan initiated by the Government stated Digambar Kamat.
The apathy of the Government has come to the fore with the Chief Minister now announcing to setup two liquid Medical Oxygen Plants at Bambolim. The Government has woken up almost after a year since the Covid Pandemic started in India said Digambar Kamat.
The attitude of the Government is like going to dig a well after feeling thirsty. The Government spent the valuable time of the Nationwide Lockdown as well as 6 to 7 months after that on celebrations.
Today, the Covid patients in Goa are facing a nightmare with no beds available to them in the Covid Hospitals as well as the Covid Care Centres. I had raised 8 important concerns pertaining to the Covid Management and Educational Sector during the Virtual Meeting of all the 40 MLA’s convened by the Chief Minister. Surprisingly, the Chief Minister did not utter a word on the same in his speech yesterday.
The Government did not listen to our suggestion of announcing an Economic Revival Plan with Rupees 100 Crores Package to the Marginalized Sector. The Government failed to implement the Goenche Daiz Scheme which would have helped the Traditional Occupationists of Goa.
The announcement of the Chief Minister to give ten thousand jobs to the Goans is unrealistic. The Government has just advertised few posts but has not done any further process to actually recruit the youths. I want to remind the people of Goa that the same BJP Government had advertised various posts in the past and eventually had kept the entire recruitment process in abeyance. I have a Assembly reply wherein the Government has clearly stated that they have not done any study of the vacancies existing in various departments of the Government stated Digambar Kamat.
He charged the Government of not releasing timely pensions to the Social Welfare Beneficiaries like Senior Citizens, Widows, Persons with Disabilities, Laadli Laxmi Scheme, Gruh Aadhar Scheme etc. and instead making wasteful expenditure on constructing memorials and announcing plans for construction of New Raj Bhavan, Renovation of Goa Assembly Complex and Ministers Bungalows.
Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat alleged that the Government incurred huge expenditure of almost 4 Crores on Goa Liberation Day function. He pointed out that despite spending such a huge amount, the Government did not show the courtesy to invite the Freedom Fighters for the said function.
Digambar Kamat stated that the BJP Government after coming to power in 2012 shelved the Goa Vision 2035 Document prepared by the Committee under noted Scientist Dr. Raghunath Mashelkar.
Reminding the Chief Minister to release White Papers on the Financial Condition of the State, Mhadei Water Dispute, Covid Pandemic, Three Linear Projects causing destruction to Environment and converting Goa into a Coal Hub, Digambar Kamat stated that the Government must show guts to place facts and figures before the public.
The Chief Minister on one side blames the Opposition for politicising the Covid Pandemic. Unfortunately on the other side the same government organizes “Tika Utsav” by displaying posters of the BJP functionaries. The Chief Minister himself convened a meeting of only BJP Zilla Panchayat Members yesterday to discuss on Covid. These acts of the BJP makes it clear who is trying to take Political advantage of the situation said Digambar Kamat.
I humbly request each and every Goans to strictly follow the Covid Protocol, Wear Mask, Maintain Social Distancing and Follow Hygiene. He also appeals to all the Political activist to refrain from crowding during the Municipal Elections Counting’s tomorrow. He appealed to the Wining Candidates not to organize any Victory Processions after the results are declared.
Digambar Kamat said that let us first kill the Covid Virus and then celebrate the real Victory.
