PANAJI: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Girish Chodankar on Monday alleged that the Chief Minister and the BJP are working on forming a new Salcete-based secular party ahead of the Assembly elections to divide anti-BJP votes.
Addressing the media, Chodankar claimed that a budget of ₹100 crore has allegedly been earmarked for the exercise, with the objective of splitting the secular vote bank of the Congress.
He further alleged that the process of forming the new political outfit has already begun with the involvement of certain leaders.
Speaking on the opposition’s strategy for the upcoming elections, Chodankar said the Congress has initiated communication with opposition parties and alliance partners to begin discussions on a pre-poll alliance.
He stated that the Congress welcomes all political parties and leaders who are committed to defeating the BJP. “Anyone who wants to defeat the BJP is welcome to join the alliance,” he said.
Chodankar also said that several new leaders are joining the Congress but clarified that the party will ensure existing Block Congress leaders in their respective constituencies are not sidelined during the induction process.
He reiterated that the Congress is focused on strengthening opposition unity and building a broad alliance to challenge the BJP in the forthcoming Assembly elections.
