Panaji: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant launched the State-level Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign 2024 today at a function organized by the Department of Urban Development and the Goa State Urban Development Agency, in collaboration with the Department of Panchayat, Department of Rural Development, and Corporation of the City Panaji.
The event took place at the Art and Culture Hall, Panaji. The 2024 Swachhata Hi Seva campaign, themed “Swabhav Swachhata – Sanskaar Swachhata,” will run from September 17 to October 2, 2024.
This initiative aims to foster a culture of cleanliness and environmental responsibility across Goa. In his address, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant emphasized the importance of preserving nature by maintaining a clean environment and protecting old and rare tree species. He urged every G
oan to ensure their surroundings are free from garbage. Dr. Sawant announced a competition encouraging all 12 talukas to participate in a “Clean and Neat Taluka” challenge over the next 15 days, with awards for the best-performing talukas.
Additionally, the Chief Minister informed that the government has allowed heads of the offices to dispose of waste and scrap lying in their offices up to the value of 5-10 lakhs, underscoring the administration’s commitment to effective waste management. He also highlighted Goa’s pioneering efforts in establishing advanced waste management facilities, including Solid Waste Management Plants, Biomedical Waste Management Plants, E-waste Plants, and Construction Waste Plants. Dr. Sawant concluded by stressing that cleanliness is a significant personal contribution to society.
Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godhino emphasized the need for panchayats to ensure the collection of garbage taxes and highlighted the funds allocated to 100 panchayats under the Swachh Bharat Mission. He encouraged young people to lead the way in fostering cleanliness awareness and personal responsibility.

Rohit Monserrate, CCP Mayor; Shri Gopal Parsekar, Director, Directorate of Rural Development; Shri Brijesh Manerkar, Director, Directorate of Urban Development; Smt. Siddhi Halarnkar, Director, Directorate of Panchayat; and other distinguished guests.
The function was compered by Pradeep Naik, who also proposed the vote of thanks.
