PANAJI: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant released Mayem Biodiversity Atlas – India’s First Village Atlas at Mahamaya Devalaya Mandap Mayem, Bicholim today.
The function was jointly organised by Mayem Vaiguinim Grampanchayat, Biodiversity Management Committee, Mayem Vaiguinim and Mayem Panlot Sangh.
Speaking on the occasion Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant informed that the Government will come up with a biodiversity atlas of all 191 panchayats in the State assured to provide required help to preserve and maintain biodiversity.
Chief Minister further said, it is our duty to preserve our biodiversity and maintain it for future generations. He said to use biodiversity in a sustainable manner means to use natural resources at a rate that the Earth can renew them. Due to change in climatic conditions the public should not suffer, he remarked.
Chief Minister released a unique Atlas book, dedicated website, Poster and a logo during the celebrations. Prizes to the students who excelled in various competitions were given at the hands of the Chief Minister.
Present on the occasion were Smt. Suvarna Chodankar, Sarpanch, Mayem Vaiguinim Panchayat, Shri Shrikant Pednekar, BDO, Bicholim, Shri Sakharam Pednekar, Chairman, Biodiversity Management Committee, Mayem Vaiguinim, Shri Ramesh Prabhu Gaonkar, President Shree Kelbai Devasthan Samiti, Smt. Sufala Chopdekar, Deputy Sarpanch and Panchayat Members and others.
Earlier, Shri Sakharam Pednekar welcomed and briefed about the village Atlas project.
MLA, Shri Premendra Shet, and Member Secretary, Goa State Biodiversity Board Dr. Pradip Sarmukadam also spoke on the occasion.
Ms. Harshada Gawas compered and Smt. Suvarna Chodankar proposed a vote of thanks.
