PANAJI: Goa Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant has criticised the Congress over alleged derogatory remarks targeting the family of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing the party of blurring the line between political opposition and personal abuse.
In a statement, Sawant questioned whether Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge would defend what he described as a decline in political discourse. He alleged that after remarks targeting the Prime Minister’s mother, Congress leaders had now made disrespectful comments about his father.
Sawant said personal attacks against a leader’s family were no substitute for earning public trust. He maintained that such remarks would not diminish the respect and confidence that millions of Indians place in Modi.
The Chief Minister also attributed the Congress’s approach to repeated electoral setbacks, arguing that political parties should focus on constructive politics rather than personal criticism. He said the people of India understood the difference between constructive opposition and political attacks.
