PANAJI: As private agency Center for Monitoring India Economy (CMIE) pegs Goa’s monthly unemployment rate at 22. % , the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant has termed the rate as “unrealistic and unreliable”
Many newspapers have reported about the monthly unemployment rate of 22.1 percent for the Month of March, 2021 as released by the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE).
“Similar media reports appeared in the month of December 2019 wherein the unemployment rate was pegged at 34.5% by CMIE for the state of Goa.” Said CMO
The Government of Goa has further raised apprehensions about the process adopted by the organization while arriving at the figures when they earlier reported unusual and erratic unemployment rate.
“It is also clarified that the same organisation reported Monthly unemployment rate of 10 % at the peak of Covid in June 2020, 10.9% in Oct 2020 and 2.8 % in Feb 2020.” CMO added
Further it said that the organisation has also added “Beta” to the “Unemployment Rate in India” as shown on their website. As is known, “Beta” version in software parlance means the version made available for testing.
“As per their website, the monthly employment rate depends on the sample size of 44,100 households for the whole of India.” It reads
