PONDA: With initiatives of the Goa Government, there are a lot of job opportunities for Goans; no Goan youths would remain unemployed; however, the only need is that the youths, including ITI going students, should upgrade their traditional skills with education, diploma in advance courses/ technology. Migrants will not get any chance if Goans youths make an effort to upgrade their skills.
Chief Minister Pramod in a function held at ITI Farmagudi held in coordination with the Directorate of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Shri Shri Rural Development Programme on the occasion of birthday of Art of Living founder Shri Shri Ravi Shankar. Laboratory worth Rs 76 lakhs with solar panels was handed over to ITI by the Shri Shri Rural Development Programme on the birthday of Shri Shri Ravishankar.
Chief Minister said the government had tied up with Industries to provide jobs to local Goans. However, Goan youth need to upgrade their traditional skills.
He said when we call for repairs of home appliances right from Plumber, TV Mechanic, Electricians, washing machine mechanics, etc. they are primarily migrants.
“Even they charge fees to the tune of Rs 500 to Rs 1000, which is even higher than doctors fees, this is because Goans are mostly after government jobs or not serious about upgrading their skills,” he said.
He said the very purpose of ITIs is the youth should become self-reliant even if they didn’t get government or private jobs. The government provides a subsidy of ten lakh for startups and not IIT; even ITI students can start their own businesses.
He said skill development by Goan youths is a must. In recent times Goa Government started Marine Cluster at Goa Shipyard. When he inquired how many Goan youths applied for jobs, he got a reply that just 49 applications were of Goan youths among the total of around 250 application.
“Further Goa government started Water Sports institute and also Maritime Institute besides so many such initiatives already started where skill development is necessary. No Goan youth remain unemployed, and no migrant would get a job if Goans develop skill up-gradation,” he said.
He said Government ITI provides training to around 5000 students every year and urged students to upgrade their skills to explore and get Job opportunities in Goan Industries.
Sawant said if Goan youths, besides self-employment services, take the job of plumber, electricians, and mechanics can become self-dependent or atmanirbhar.
He said daily, around 10,000 skilled workers from Maharashtra and Karnataka work in Goan Industries; if Goans upgrade their skills no need to depend on other states.
Chief Minister congratulated ITI teachers and Principle for providing training to 1400 women with various skills. He said the government would make the available online market for goods produced by women in Goa.
