PANAJI: The All India Congress Commitee (AICC) today declared the fourth of 8 candidates for the Goa Assembly Elections.
As per the list, Meghashyam Raut will contest from Bicholim, Aman Lotlikar for Thivim, Michael Lobo for Calangute, Vikas Prabhudesai for Porvorim, Anthony Fernandes for St Andre.
Further, Dharmesh Saglani for Sankhalim, Lavu Mamledar for Marciam, Prasad Gaonkar for Sanguem and Janardhan Bhandari for Canacona.
Surprisingly, Goa Forward Party which is in alliance with the Congress failed to get a ticket for Jagdish Bhobe in St Andre.
“Congratulations to all the Candidates. Let us work together to bring back INCGoa Government in Goa. Let us work hand in hand to Protect Identity of Goa,” said LoP Digambar Kamat
The names of candidates were finalised after a meeting of the central election committee of the Congress, and it was chaired by party president Sonia Gandhi, according to a statement.
It may be recalled that the party had fielded its sitting legislator Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco from the Curtorim constituency. However, he resigned days after being named in the candidate list and joined the TMC.
In the 2017 Goa Assembly polls, the Congress had emerged as the single largest party by winning 17 seats in the 40-member House. However, the BJP at that time had forged an alliance with some regional outfits and independent legislators to form a government.
