Panaji: Hindu Janajagruti Samiti has demanded that the Congress Party should publicly apologize to the people and explain its position regarding the Constitution to the people.
HJS said the Congress candidate from South Goa, Viriato Fernandes, while speaking at a campaign rally, recently made a serious statement that India has imposed the Constitution on the people of Gomantak by force.
He also said that such a statement was made in front of the then Congress President Rahul Gandhi.
“This is a grave insult of the Constitution by the Congress, whose leaders are making such statements in the name of ‘protecting the Constitution’. How should people trust those who take a double-faced, anti-national stance?,” HJS said.
“To say that the Constitution was imposed on Gomantakis means ‘Do you not accept the Indian Constitution?’ Do you still think Goa is a colony of the Portuguese? Even after 64 years of independence, Goa has not been able to develop a sense of Nationalism due to some Portuguese people who consider Goa as a Portuguese colony. Congress candidate Viriato Fernandes has said that he has demanded from Congress President Rahul Gandhi to get dual citizenship for the people of Gomantak,” HJS says.
In the meantime, it came to light that flag hoisting was not allowed on an island in Goa. Also, a few thousand people of Goa had demanded to make Goa an independent Nation. From all these incidents, it can be seen that there is a deliberate effort to increase separatist tendencies in Goa.
“We strongly condemn such a divisive attitude. Demand for dual citizenship is dangerous for national integration. If Congress nominates people of such ideology, then how can the ideology of Congress be considered different? In fact, this is a kind of treason and we demand from the government that a case of treason be registered in this situation,” it says.
