PANAJI: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) has decided in-principle to contest forthcoming election to elect Rajya Sabha member from Goa.
The political Advisory Committee of Congress in Goa took the decision to field Congress candidate in the Rajya Sabha election.
The decision will be conveyed to the high command and final decision will be taken in next few days, says Congress.
Congress will take support from like-minded parties in these elections and Leader of Opposition will talk to other opposition parties for support, says Congress leader M K Shaikh.
He further said that the Congress is gearing up for the Lok Sabha elections to be held next year.
A meeting of block presidents was held in the presence of AICC Goa desk in-charge Manickam Tagore to review the work allocated to block presidents to prepare the party for the Lok Sabha polls.
The Goa Legislature Secretariat on Thursday released a notification regarding the upcoming election for the only Rajya Sabha seat, scheduled on July 24.
Incidentally, the monsoon session of the Goa Legislative Assembly will be underway, as it begins on July 18 till August 10.
BJP’s Vinay Tendulkar, who is currently representing Goa in Rajya Sabha, is set to complete his term on July 28.
As per the notification, the election will be conducted from 9 am to 4 pm at the VIP Block of the Goa Assembly Complex in Porvorim.
The deadline for filing nominations is July 13 while the scrutiny of nominations will take place on July 14 and withdrawal of nominations on July 17.
