Aam Aadmi Party today demanded that work on setting up a full fledged medical centre at Ribandar start immediately.
Dr Vibhas Prabhudesai of AAP pointed out the difficulties faced by not only people but even medical staff due to the pandemic and said making life easy for all is the bounden duty of the government.
“The state is going through unprecedented times. We are losing Goan lives every single day. In such difficult times the priority of the the government must be health of Goans. But the government seems to be least interested in it. The healthcare system in Goa is neither healthy nor caring and has no system” He said
He pointed out that chief minister Dr Pramod Sawant, health minister Vishwajit Rane and local MLA Babush Monserrate had promised the people a full fledged medical centre at Ribandar.
However since then nobody knows what has happened, he said adding that even the core committee is not taken into confidence over the matter.
He demanded that work on setting up the centre at Ribandar should commence at least before Diwali as a festive gift to ailing Goans.
It may be recalled that the Goa Institute of Management was housed in the premises where GMC existed earlier and has not been in use since GIM shifted from there.
In fact Urban Health Center health officer had pointed out that the premises needed major works relating to flooring, plumbing and electrical fittings.
The government had proposed a day care medical dispensary with a doctor, nurse, pharmacist and attendant being posted at the Ribandar center.
Unfortunately all these have remained as mere promises and the centre will not be ready by February as promised to coincide with election of City Corporation of Panaji.
“It is indeed sad that the ruling BJP has funds to purchase MLAs, renovate Raj Bhavan, etc but has no money to provide health care facilities for the people,” said Dr Vibhas
He pointed out that people of Ribandar have been suffering for over two decades and are forced to go either to Panjim or to Chimbel for health care facilities.
The health centre promised at Ribandar and which was supposed to be set up with Smart City funds will probably be yet another empty promise by the BJP government, he said.
