DABOLIM: The United Taximen Union expressed grave concerns for the safety and security of its members following such attacks and denounced the recent attack on a taxi operator at Dabolim airport.
The frightening event of a physical attack on a taxi operator that occurred on Monday night at Dabolim Airport has drawn the attention of Shailesh Mayekar, President of the United Taximen Union. He stressed the precarious position of taxi drivers as front-line employees in the transportation industry.
Following the upsetting event, the Police Inspector (PI) stepped in and promised the union that the person who carried out the assault would face swift and severe consequences. For the impacted taxi drivers and their families, this assurance offers a ray of hope.
Under Mayekar’s direction, the United Taximen Union is continuing to keep a close eye on the situation. To guarantee their members’ safety and protection, they demand that the authorities act quickly.
The union and its members are demanding action to stop future occurrences of this kind and are waiting for justice as the investigation moves forward. This emphasizes how crucial it is that frontline workers in the transportation industry have a safe workplace.
Sanjay Naik, a former president of the UTU, urged the government and law enforcement to take aggressive measures against touts.
“In Goa, a popular tourist destination, we have two airports, but occasionally, drunken touts greet visitors with profanity and incite fights,” Naik said.
Naik said the police had started an investigation after receiving a complaint from the union.
“The attacker is still at large, even though we’ve given the police all the information we have,” Naik stated.
Naik emphasized the significance of taking tough measures against unauthorized taxi businesses and touts at airports, as they not only put drivers in danger but also cause disruptions to taxi services.
