New Delhi: Ram Mohan Naidu on Friday said that the investigation into the crash of Air India Flight AI 171 is in its final stages and is likely to be completed within the next month.
Speaking during the second edition of the Aircraft Leasing and Financing Summit at GIFT City in Gandhinagar, the minister stated that the probe is being handled independently by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau and that the government has ensured full support for the investigation process.
He said the ministry has provided all necessary resources to the investigation team while maintaining a non interfering approach to ensure the integrity of the probe. According to the minister, the final report will have to meet international standards of transparency because the ill fated flight had foreign nationals among the passengers.
The minister noted that the report would remain open to scrutiny from international agencies and stakeholders, making transparency and accuracy critical aspects of the investigation. He added that while efforts are being made to complete the process quickly, authorities do not want to compromise the investigation by rushing it.
The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau had earlier submitted its preliminary findings to the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation on July 12, 2025. Authorities are now working towards finalising the comprehensive report into one of India’s deadliest aviation disasters in recent years.
Responding to concerns raised by some families of the victims regarding delays in compensation and communication, the minister said the ministry has been closely monitoring the matter and remains in regular contact with the airline. He stated that a dedicated monitoring cell has been set up within the ministry to oversee the situation and facilitate discussions wherever required.
The tragedy occurred on June 12, 2025, when a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner operating as Air India Flight AI 171 crashed less than a minute after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad while en route to London Gatwick. The aircraft went down in the densely populated Meghaninagar area, claiming 260 lives.
