MARGAO: Opposition Leader Yuri Alemao has criticised the decision to curtail the Monsoon Session of the Goa Assembly, terming it a “murder of democracy”.
Speaking about discussions at the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) meeting, Alemao said several issues, including alleged irregularities and corruption under the “double-engine government”, were raised.
“We will not allow Goa to be sold, nor will we allow the BJP to win the 2027 Assembly elections,” Alemao said.
The Opposition Leader also raised concerns over the growing sale of land in Goa, unemployment, rising prices and pollution. He alleged that the government has failed to adequately address these issues.
Alemao further expressed concern over the spread of the drug menace, alleging that drugs have reached homes, schools and even areas close to police establishments.
He questioned the effectiveness of the government’s efforts to control the drug menace and highlighted what he described as a low conviction rate in drug-related cases.
Alemao warned that the expanding drug culture poses a serious threat to Goa’s youth and the future of the state.
