Vasco: Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho on Friday inspected the ongoing construction of the Dabolim flyover along with officials from the Public Works Department Goa, National Highways authorities, and MVR, reviewing the progress of a key infrastructure project in South Goa.
Following the inspection, the Minister said that one side of the flyover is likely to be opened for public use by the end of May, or by early June at the latest, depending on the completion of pending works. He noted that the partial opening is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion and reduce inconvenience for daily commuters in the Dabolim stretch.
Godinho stated that the inspection was part of continued follow-up on coordination meetings held with all stakeholders, including MVR and National Highway authorities, where timelines were set to expedite the project. He added that sustained inter-departmental coordination has helped address on-site challenges and accelerate construction.
A key highlight of the project is the proposed development of a landscaped public space beneath the flyover. The Minister said the area will be converted into a garden with seating, lighting, and beautification features, creating a recreational space for residents.
He further informed that the same space will also be utilised for cultural events, including the annual “Dabolimcha Raja” Ganesh celebrations, which draw large crowds each year.
Additionally, arrangements have been made for the beautification of a temple structure that was relocated during the construction process. An architect has been engaged to design the structure in harmony with the surrounding development.
The Minister said that the remaining works, including road surfacing and finishing touches, will be carried out in phases, with efforts to make the flyover operational before the peak monsoon season.
Once fully completed, the Dabolim flyover is expected to enhance connectivity and improve traffic flow along one of South Goa’s busiest corridors.
