PANAJI: As sewerage line work cannot be carried out during the monsoons, PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral said that the dug roads will be temporarily put in place by June 1 without hot mixing.
Cabral said the damage caused to old sewer lines connecting houses will be fixed within next eight days and thereafter the road will be taken up for full grouting.
“New sewerage line work in Panaji will not be completed before the monsoons. As sewerage line work cannot be carried out during the monsoons, the dug roads will be temporarily put in place by June 1 without hot mixing. They will be dug up yet again post monsoon to complete the Smart City works,’ said Cabral
He further said that New sewerage line work will not be completed before the monsoons as work of manholes etc is yet to be done.
“We will not continue with the work during monsoon; PWD should have executed the work and not GSUDA. Iassured that efforts are on to ensure that overflowing of sewerage will not happen,” he added
Commenting on the spree of heavy vehicles falling victim to the ongoing Smart City works, the PWD Minister said, “Such incidents are bound to happen as for 700 mm pipes, they drilled 900 mm, so how will the 200 mm space be filled? The soil is sandy and already loosened, so with pressure, the road will cave in from the sides of the laid pipes.”
Initially, the CCP had stated that the situation would be under control after leakage in a sewer line addressed, however even after the situation didn’t improve, the City Corporation then stated that the things will fall in place once the vacuum sewer system is commissioned in Mala.
