Panaji:Minister for Art and Culture Ramesh Tawadkar has stated that the ongoing delimitation exercise is being carried out strictly as per the directions of the Election Commission India, clarifying that he has no personal role in the process.
Responding to concerns over ward restructuring ahead of municipal elections, Tawadkar said that all decisions regarding ward division or changes have been taken by the Election Commission and administrative authorities, including the Deputy Collector.
He acknowledged concerns over imbalance in certain wards, noting that while some wards have only a few hundred voters, others have significantly higher numbers. He said that had such disparities been addressed uniformly, there would have been little scope for objections.
The minister reiterated that he has not intervened in any panchayat-level matters and expressed trust in the official process. However, he pointed out that his constituency has seen a reduction of around 2,500 voters, which could influence election results in closely contested scenarios.
Emphasising that every vote is crucial, Tawadkar said even a drop of a few thousand voters can make a difference. He also attributed changes in voter data to migration trends, with people from other states settling and getting registered along with their families.
While acknowledging concerns, he maintained that the process remains under the jurisdiction of the Election Commission and said he does not have any major objections.
