PANAJI: Margao MLA and Senior Congress Leader Digambar Kamat has refuted rumours of him quitting the Congress and joining the BJP.
There was speculation that the BJP would induct Kamat as a minister during the cabinet expansion and allocate him the power portfolio.
“I had gone to Delhi with my wife for a wedding function yesterday, and today late evening, I returned to Goa,” said Kamat
He further said that he would have not been at home if he had a plan to quit Congress and join BJP.
After emerging as the single largest party in 2017, Congress fared poorly in this year’s assembly elections.
The BJP, which had toppled the Grand Old Party to form the government last time, ensured power for the third time in a row with 28 seats in the 40-member house.
Currently, BJP has 20 MLAs and needs just one for the Majority mark of 21. As of now, MGP and three Independents have extended support.
