DONAPAULA: An elderly couple from a reputed business family in Dona Paula endured a terrifying ordeal early Sunday morning when three armed robbers broke into their bungalow, tied them up, and looted valuables from their home.
The robbery occurred between 12:00 AM and 4:00 AM, police said. The intruders, armed with daggers, reportedly gained access to the property by assaulting the security guard stationed at the entrance.
Once inside, the robbers entered the couple’s bedroom, where the 77-year-old man and his 71-year-old wife were asleep. They were tied to their bed while the suspects ransacked the house, fleeing with cash, jewellery, and other valuables.
The total value of the stolen items is yet to be confirmed.
Police have launched a comprehensive investigation, with forensic teams gathering evidence from the scene.
Statements from the victims and the injured guard are being recorded to aid the probe.
The incident has caused widespread concern in the upscale Dona Paula area, with residents urging authorities to strengthen security measures and increase night patrols to prevent such incidents in the future.
