PANAJI: Schools and colleges have been advised by the Disability Rights Association of Goa (DRAG) to accept students with disabilities. According to DRAG, there are still instances in Goa of schools and colleges refusing admission to people with disabilities.
Additionally, DRAG has extended support to educational institutions in order to encourage inclusive education. According to DRAG, educational institutions must give students with disabilities reasonable accommodations and barrier-free access.
Professional colleges should keep 5% of their seats reserved for students with disabilities, as DRAG has reminded us. Under the 2016 Disability Act, educational institutions that violate the aforementioned face legal consequences.
According to DRAG President Avelino Dsa, they have seen multiple instances of educational institutions turning away students with disabilities. According to the association, the education department has not been assisting the disabled people, and these cases are still ongoing this year.
The Disability Rights Advocates Group (DRAG) has reminded people that people with disabilities are protected by the Constitution and that they will take complaints seriously.
