PANAJI: Shanvi Reddy Nimma of Telangana emerged as the standout performer at the Yonex-Sunrise U-13 National Ranking Badminton Tournament in Goa, producing a brilliant display to capture two titles on an action-packed finals day at the Manohar Parrikar Indoor Stadium in Navelim.
Shanvi first lifted the girls’ singles crown with a composed 21-9, 21-19 victory over Maharashtra’s Divisha Singh. She then teamed up with Lyosha Korukonda to secure the girls’ doubles title, defeating Karnataka’s Shaanvi P. N. and Shambhavi Sharma 21-19, 21-18 in a closely contested final. Her dominant performances across both events made her the biggest star of the championship.
In the boys’ singles final, Madhya Pradesh shuttler Ishmeet Arora completed an impressive campaign with a hard fought win over Uttarakhand’s Sarthak Joshi. The thrilling three game encounter ended 22-20, 8-21, 21-19 in Ishmeet’s favour after a tense battle that kept spectators engrossed until the final point.
The boys’ doubles title went to Andhra Pradesh’s Harshith Venkata Sai and Delhi’s Hiten, who overcame Tamil Nadu pair Amitesha A.K. and Athvik J.C. 21-18, 14-21, 21-14 in another intense contest.
Earlier in the semifinals, Shanvi cruised past Karnataka’s Stuthi S. Shetty 21-11, 21-5, while Divisha Singh defeated Shreeya A. Rao 21-19, 21-15 to reach the girls’ singles final. In boys’ singles action, Sarthak Joshi comfortably beat Delhi’s Arpit Baliyan 21-11, 21-11, while Ishmeet Arora edged Punjab’s Rabbiguel Anji in a marathon clash 24-22, 19-21, 21-13.
The doubles semifinals also produced exciting encounters. Harshith and Hiten defeated Rehaan Dudekula and Sarthak Joshi in three games, while Amitesha and Athvik survived a tense battle against Karnataka’s Manvith M. A. and Vaibhav Rao Nandikolla.
The prestigious tournament, organised by the Goa Badminton Association under the aegis of the Badminton Association of India in association with the South Goa District Badminton Association, carried a prize purse of Rs 6 lakh. Goa’s promising youngster Amaira Dhumatker received a special prize for her encouraging performance during the event.
