PANAJI: The Government of Goa has migrated all birth and death registration activities to the Central Civil Registration System (CRS) Portal with effect from July 1, 2026, in line with the directions of the Office of the Registrar General of India (ORGI), Ministry of Home Affairs.
According to an official communication, the State has transitioned from the existing State Portal to the Central CRS Portal for all birth and death registration-related services. As part of the migration, birth and death records maintained on the State Portal from 1971 to June 30, 2026 will be integrated into the Central CRS Portal in phases.
Once the records are successfully migrated, they will be available on the Central CRS Portal for citizens to access services related to birth and death registration. These records will thereafter be frozen on the State Portal, and certificates and other related services will be issued only through the Central CRS Portal.
The existing State Portal will continue to function only for issuing birth and death certificates for records that are yet to be migrated to the Central CRS Portal. However, no new birth or death registrations will be entered into the State Portal from July 1, 2026 onwards.
The government stated that birth and death certificates issued through the Central CRS Portal will follow the uniform format prescribed by the Registrar General of India and will be valid across the country.
Certificates issued through the State Portal for records pending migration will continue to be generated in the existing State format until those records are integrated into the Central CRS Portal. Consequently, the format of certificates issued through the State Portal may differ from those generated through the Central CRS system.
The migration aims to establish a uniform, nationwide system for civil registration and streamline citizen services related to birth and death records.
