PANAJI: Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant on Thursday said politicians must continuously upgrade themselves and adapt to changing times, asserting that politics is no longer the way it used to be and that votes can no longer be taken for granted.
Addressing a gathering, Dr. Sawant said leaders today are judged by their performance and face an “exam” every five years during elections.
“Adopting new technology is essential, and we must continuously upgrade ourselves every day. Without this, survival is not possible—even in politics. This is not old-style politics anymore. Elections are like an exam held every five years. If elected, it is like securing distinction; if not, it is a failure,” he said.
Drawing a comparison with students, the Chief Minister remarked that while students appear for examinations once, politicians face the test of public approval every five years and must continuously earn the people’s trust through their work.
The Chief Minister also announced that from 2027, candidates applying for new government jobs in Goa will be required to possess a computer certificate and clear a computer proficiency test as the government moves towards a more technology-driven administration.
He urged young people to acquire skills in artificial intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies to remain competitive in the job market, adding that the private sector offers excellent career opportunities and, in many cases, better salaries than government jobs.
Addressing newly appointed government employees, Dr. Sawant advised them to remain dedicated to their responsibilities, saying commitment, hard work and consistency are essential for long-term career growth and success.
