PANAJI: Drishti Marine, the state-appointed professional lifesaving agency, has issued a summer advisory urging beachgoers to take essential precautions amid rising temperatures and increased tourist footfall in Goa. With temperatures ranging between 27°C and 35°C, the agency has warned of risks such as dehydration, sunburn, heatstroke, and dangerous sea conditions. Visitors have been advised to swim only within designated zones marked by red and yellow flags and strictly avoid red-flag areas indicating unsafe waters. Over 450 trained lifesavers have been deployed across 54 beaches, with more than 100 demarcated swim zones, and are on duty daily from 7:30 am to 7:00 pm with first-aid facilities at towers. Speaking on the advisory, Navin Awasthi urged tourists to stay hydrated, carry caps, umbrellas, sunscreen, and water bottles, and avoid direct sun exposure between 12 noon and 3 pm. He added that lifesavers continuously monitor sea conditions, including rip and underwater currents, to ensure swimmer safety. Lifesavers are also stationed at key tourist spots such as Dudhsagar Waterfalls, Mayem Lake, Savri waterfall, and Mhovacho Guno. Authorities have further advised visitors to avoid swimming alone, refrain from entering the water under the influence of alcohol, keep a close watch on children, and immediately alert lifesavers in case of emergencies while following all safety instructions for a safe beach experience.
