PANAJI: In view of drowning cases reported in Goa, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today requested citizens and parents to take precautions while venturing into water bodies this monsoon season.
CM Sawant was addressing the media after chairing the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) meeting.
“There is no restriction on going at waterfalls but precautions have to be taken. I request parents to take precautions. I also appealed to tourists not to venture into sea and waterfall ponds after drinking liquor as drowning cases are being reported,” said Sawant.
He further said that requested all to avoid venturing into ponds near waterfalls.
“People are unaware of the depth of the water near the waterfalls and one should not venture into it after drinking liquor,” he added.
He also said that youth should not venture into ponds and sea during the monsoon season.”
We are taking precautions and measures so that no such cases take place, hence we will try to deploy guards in these areas,” Sawant told reporters.
Chief Minister further said that the Heat Wave Action Plan 2024 and Airport Emergency Response Plan have already been implemented.
Sawant also requested citizens to download the Sachet Portal app as only 500 downloads were achieved since launch.e
“We have 400 Aapda Mitras working at 11 Multipurpose cyclone shelters; for Early Warning Dissemination System (EWDS), govt has tied up with BSNL; ONGC also helping in training for disaster management,” he added CM.
Sawant said that the government will give Rs 1 lakh to Panaji Municipal Corporation, Rs 50 thousand to Municipalities and Rs 25 thousand to Panchayats to carry out essential pre-monsoon works.
An order to this effect was issued by both the District Magistrates, under Section 144 of CrPC and will come into effect from May 26.
Further, the local PI and Taluka Mamlatdar are directed to maintain vigil in their jurisdiction and enforce the order. Failure to comply with the order shall be liable for penal action under Section 188 of IPC and other relevant provisions of the law in force, states the order.
