MARGAO: A husband and wife duo, Bala Nandeshwar Rao and Shanti Bala Rao, have been charged by Margao Police with scamming a resident of Curtorim of Rs 8.5 lakh and promising him a job overseas.
The complaint states that an offense has been registered under Section 420 read with Section 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The accused, acting under the name Dream for Overseas Consulting Private Limited, situated close to Vishal Mart, Aquem, Margao, allegedly deceitfully persuaded Arbaz Khan, a resident of Oilem Moll Don Khuris, Maina Curtorim, Salcete, to pay Rs 8.5 lakh between September 2023 and April 2024 in exchange for a job in the United States.
The sum was purportedly fraudulently received through bank transfers on multiple occasions. Although no arrests have been made as of yet, police have reported the crime and are conducting investigations. According to police sources, the accused might have escaped.
