BAMBOLIM: A 79-year-old scooter rider lost his life after his scooter was allegedly hit from behind by a car near Matruchhaya Rugnashraya, St. Cruz, on June 11, 2026.
According to a State complaint lodged by Dinesh Krishna Mulgaonkar, Head Constable 4826 attached to Old Goa Police Station, the accident occurred at around 8:30 am when a Ford Figo bearing registration GA-06-D-9389, allegedly driven by Shivanando Digu Kavlekar, 46, a resident of Band, St. Cruz, was proceeding from St. Cruz towards Bambolim.
Police alleged that the driver was operating the vehicle in a rash and negligent manner and, upon reaching near Matruchhaya Rugnashraya, struck a Suzuki Access 125 scooter bearing registration GA-07-AE-9155 from behind. The impact caused the rider, Jose Calagancio Gurjao, 79, a resident of St. Cruz, to fall onto the road and sustain serious injuries.
The victim was taken to Goa Medical College and Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment in the casualty department.
Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Sanket Pokhare of Old Goa Police Station.
