Panaji: The Electricity Department was crowned champion of the Goa State Civil Services Football Tournament 2026-27 after registering a convincing 2-0 victory over the Water Resources Department in the final played at Santacruz Football Ground in Goa.
The champions opened the scoring in the first half when Yeshwant More calmly converted a penalty to put the Electricity Department ahead. Holding onto their advantage at the break, the team continued to dominate proceedings in the second half before Rajat Naik doubled the lead with a well taken goal, securing the title with a comfortable 2-0 win.
The victory capped off an impressive campaign for the Electricity Department, which displayed consistency and determination throughout the tournament to emerge as the best among the participating government departments.
The prize distribution ceremony was attended by Dr. Ajay R. Gaude, Director of the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, who presented the awards as the chief guest. He was joined by Prakash Satarkar, Officiating APEO, Anant Sawal, State Sports Organiser, along with Sports Authority of Goa coaches.
Organised by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Goa, under the aegis of the Central Civil Services Cultural and Sports Board, the tournament brought together government employees from across the state in a celebration of competitive sport and teamwork.
This year’s edition attracted an impressive 57 teams representing various government departments, making it one of the largest inter department football competitions in the state. The tournament showcased spirited performances, healthy competition, and outstanding sportsmanship, reflecting the growing enthusiasm for football among government employees in Goa.
The successful conclusion of the championship once again highlighted the role of sports in promoting fitness, camaraderie, and teamwork within the state civil services while strengthening inter department relations through competitive sporting events.
