PANAJI: The phishing messages by fraudsters to trick the electricity consumers in Goa continue even as the Goa Electricity department says it has lodged several complaints.
Despite the complaints, the fraudsters continue to send messages to the consumers.
A Noted journalist based in Panaji said that she has been getting messages for a long time now.
“When I called the number, I heard some Bengali accent, and it seems like those fraudsters are not from Goa,” she said.
She said she also got a miss call from the same number.
“I wonder how they get the phone numbers, she said.
The messages read, “Alert: Dear customer, your electricity connection will be disconnected at 10:30 pm. Because your previous bill amount is due, please call electricity 0ffice ph0ne number 9749773077 for more information. Thank you”.
The State Electricity Department has warned consumers against falling prey to fraudulent messages asking for bill payment and disconnecting connections over non-payment.
In a statement issued, the Chief Electrical Engineer (CEE) said that unknown persons are circulating fraud messages about disconnecting of power supply for non-payment of electricity bills.
“All are requested not to carry out any payments on the link provided by them or share any details/OTP,” the CEE said.
Speaking to Goemkarponn l, Chief Electrical Engineer, Stephen Fernandes, said that they had made a complaint to Crime Branch, Cyber Crime and almost everywhere, but there has been no success.
“We have also issued advertisements for people to be aware of such frauds. We request people once again not to fall prey to such messages and instead confirm with your closest AE Office,” he said.
